About The Harbour Chapel

The Harbour Chapel Intimate coastal weddings for couples who care more about connection than performance Your wedding day at The Harbour Chapel begins quietly, with sea air, a characterful setting, and the comforting sense that that you can simply be yourselves. Set in the historic harbour town of Dunbar, just 25 minutes from Edinburgh, The Harbour Chapel is a place for couples who know who they are. Whether this is your first wedding or not, whether your guest list is small and meaningful or joyfully full, the day unfolds naturally, unforced, unrushed and deeply personal. From your first private viewing to your final dance at midnight, everything happens in one relaxed, beautifully considered space. You might exchange vows beneath stained-glass windows rescued from St Giles’ Cathedral, or choose an outdoor ceremony overlooking the sea at Dunbar Battery, where the coast becomes part of the moment. And on those bright, warm Dunbar days, our award-winning Dunbar Battery, an amphitheatre nestled into the sea wall of the harbour, becomes a beautiful place to marry, linger in conversation with friends, and quietly appreciate the coastal setting around you. Drinks are poured, shoulders drop, and the day unfolds naturally, with guests moving easily between spaces, never rushed, never staged. A wedding venue that feels like a deep exhale The Harbour Chapel is an intimate, historic East Lothian wedding venue for 2 to 120 guests , offering exclusive use of the entire space and garden. We proudly welcome same-sex couples, second marriages, elopements and celebrations that don’t fit neatly into tradition. Many of our couples describe themselves as quietly quirky, thoughtful, creative, a little unconventional - and often relieved to find a venue that feels special without feeling showy. If you value warmth over spectacle and meaning over display, you’ll feel at home here. One place, many moods This former church and contemporary reception bar sit side by side, creating a rare all-in-one venue where the day flows without awkward transitions or grand entrances (unless you want one). The Chapel Atmospheric, historic and gently dramatic, with magnificent stained glass and soft light that brings a sense of occasion without overwhelming the room. The Reception Bar & Social Spaces Modern, relaxed and welcoming, perfect for fizz, whisky and conversation, with direct access to the garden and harbour beyond. The chapel seats up to 80 guests for dining , with space for up to 120 in the evening , creating a celebration that feels intimate even when the dance floor fills. Food & drink that brings people together We’re known for food that feels generous, thoughtful and genuinely delicious. Our chefs work closely with trusted East Lothian suppliers to create seasonal menus that encourage lingering at the table and shared moments, rather than formality for formality’s sake. Whether you’re planning a relaxed feast or something a little more indulgent, we’ll help you choose a menu that suits your people, your pace and your day. Calm, inclusive planning — without the wedding ‘Factory’ Every wedding at The Harbour Chapel is different, and we create bespoke quotes based on what matters to you. Our all-inclusive pricing typically includes: Exclusive use of the entire venue and garden Ceremony, drinks, dining and evening set-up Thoughtful wedding planning and on-the-day coordination Supplier liaison (as agreed) Banqueting tables, chairs and full tableware Fully stocked bar with experienced, friendly staff Dance floor, PA system, playlists and party lighting With the harbour just two minutes’ walk away, there’s always space to step outside, breathe, and take photographs that feel natural rather than staged. We have some stunning and picturesque photographic locations just a few steps away. Easy to reach, easy to stay Dunbar and the surrounding East Lothian coast offer excellent accommodation, from boutique hotels to coastal cottages and countryside retreats, ideal for guests travelling from near or far. We’re on the main London–Aberdeen train line, making arrivals and departures refreshingly straightforward. Our promise We’re a small, local team known for stellar service , calm organisation and genuine care. We work with like-minded suppliers who share our belief that weddings should feel human, inclusive and joyfully personal. Your day will be thoughtfully planned, quietly supported and beautifully delivered, without fuss, pressure or performance. If you’d like to arrange a private viewing, you’re welcome to get in touch anytime. Many couples tell us they knew The Harbour Chapel was the one the moment they walked in.

We recently celebrated our wedding at the Harbour Chapel, and we’re so glad we chose it. We had the most perfect day – we couldn’t have asked for anything better. We completely fell in love with the stunning and unique venue (and the Dunbar battery nearby) at the open day, and Victoria and team were so warm, attentive and friendly from the very beginning, which cinched the deal for us. Wedding planning can be stressful, but Victoria was incredible throughout – she was always so patient, kind and always had a solution for everything. She genuinely went above and beyond to make sure our needs and wants were met and having her on board really took a weight off my mind. And on the day itself, Victoria and her team were phenomenal. They made everything run smoothly, allowing us to be fully relaxed and present. …and the food (one of the most important things for us), was beyond amazing. Lots of praise from family and friends on this – to quote my brother “I felt like woodland satyr eating from a woodland cornucopia’, which was an accurate description of the cheese and charcuterie board Kris so wonderfully put together. We cannot thank Victoria and team enough for their support and service throughout and especially on the day. They made everything feel easy and gave us the most wonderful day that was better than we could have imagined. If you want an elevated, unique wedding experience, that feels incredibly

We recently had a party at the Harbour Chapel to celebrate a birthday, a wedding anniversary and a personal milestone. We are a same-sex couple and felt very welcome which unfortunately is not always the case for gay couples. Victoria was wonderful through the whole planning process and at the celebration. She was patient and diplomatic with us and made many great suggestions that enhanced the party. She had contacts with a band, a caterer and a cake-maker who all provided excellent food and entertainment. Her staff were friendly and efficient and helped make the evening very successful. The venue is historic, beautiful and suitable for both celebratory and solemn events. All the guests enjoyed themselves and the feedback was very positive. All in all I c

We came across The Harbour Chapel through a web search for reasonably priced venues to accommodate our small elopement and we booked our wedding for 29th September straight away. The Harbour Chapel had everything we were looking for – a beautiful little venue by the sea with a wonderful atmosphere and great staff, especially Victoria, who went above and beyond to make our day special. In the lead-up to the wedding, and on the day itself, the team looked after us so well. Due to distance we hadn't actually viewed the venue before booking, though we were well looked after with efficient communication to put our minds at ease. We're so glad we chose The Harbour Chapel. We visited The Harbour Chapel for an evening event and knew then this was our prefect wedding venue. After our meeting to view and chat our plan we booked our wedding for 2nd August 2025. The Harbour Chapel was local to my family and a destination for Davids to come to Scotland. The atmosphere and especially the stained glass windows made the place feel special for us. Before the wedding, and on the day itself, the team looked after us so well. We wanted special and having such a locally supported wedding for produce, suppliers, photographer and catering. It really fitted our requirements. Some of our most memorable moments were the cake doing its own thing, the team handled this with a plume, and helped to get it cut earlier than planned and the sheer joy and emotion that the day created. Our sincere thanks go to the whole team at The Harbo

Fiona & Victoria, we can't thank you enough. We had the most beautiful wedding in May of this year, and it couldn't have gone any better! I meant to review immediately after but I'm a bit forgetful! The chapel is so gorgeous, Fiona and her partner have done a beautiful job converting the place. From the get go, Fiona/Victoria will sit down with you and get to know you and exactly what you want from your wedding day. I was a little nervous at first because most of the pictures/reviews when we'd booked were for smaller weddings/elopements, and I wasn't sure what it was going to be like on the day, but the main room filled to the brim with our friends and family was so stunning and joyful. We wanted something chilled out which can be hard to nail down with the number of guests we had, but that's what we got. The day was so relaxed and beautiful, and Victoria made sure everything went so seamlessly on the day. The service was amazing, the venue and the scenery around it stunning. We had so many compliments on our choice of venue. The proximity to the shore meant our guests were wandering down there all day to enjoy the views in the lovely weather (Dunbar gets more sunshine than anywhere in Scotland, I believe!) the little garden outside is also beautiful, and a good chunk of our guests spent most of the day milling about out there enjoying the sunshine. We used Kris from Good Table for our food and it was all amazing. We had the maximum capacity for the room, aro

We secretly eloped to The Harbour chapel on the 4th June 2025. We are so greatful to have come across this gem of a place. From the 1st email, to 1st meeting, to the day itself, we were at ease knowing we were in great hands. As it was a secret elopement, Fiona and Victoria were always just an email/ phonecall away for any questions we had. Honestly their support was amazing. The place itself is absolutely stunning and just what we were looking for in t

We stumbled on the Harbour Chapel while looking for a wedding venue by the sea in Scotland for our elopement. Because we live so far away from the venue itself, we didn't actually look around it until the day before we said "I do". We were completely sold by the photos and took a chance - and we are so glad we did! Words cannot describe how stunning the venue is! The team at Harbour Chapel were beyond amazing! Victoria had numerous discussions with me before the big day and really helped put my mind at ease during the preparations and went above and beyond to make our day special and uniquely us. I would recommend the Harbour Chapel to anyone wanting to get married in the Dunbar area and if I get married again (vow rene

We discovered the Harbour Chapel online after searching for seaside venues with history, and the Chapel fit that perfectly. At our first visit, we were instantly charmed by the venue and decided to book it for our wedding this past March 14th. We both loved the beautiful location, the brilliant personal service provided by Fiona & Victoria, the excellent & locally sourced food selection (which wowed both us and our guests), and the fantastic size of the chapel itself (which suited our needs wonderfully). Fiona and Victoria took great care of us both leading up to and during the wedding. The memories of stepping into the chapel fully decorated, and the atmospheric dinner will remain grand parts to an utterly unforgettable day. We cannot thank the Harbour Chapel team enough for all the time and attention they put into making our wedding the joyous day it was

The Harbour Chapel is the most beautiful, enchanting and perfectly sized venue you could wish for. The chapel has been renovated perfectly with lots of touches from its past. The stained glass windows are breathtaking. Our first visit to the chapel was so emotional even standing looking up to the windows. We got married at the chapel in March 2025 and had only set the ball rolling with a phone call to Fiona in January when we found an available date. We live in Lancashire and have family around Dunbar so had seen the chapel on previous visits and knew this was the perfect place for our wedding. Victoria was absolutely brilliant and talked us through everything we needed from local celebrants, types of ceremonies, cake suppliers, flowers, photographers, music, drinks, food suppliers, bar snacks, local hotels etc which was a huge help and took all the stress away from what can be an overwhelming time. After a very emotional start to the wedding (I couldn’t stop crying) and the support from Fiona and Victoria - we had the perfect wedding with our 20 guests. The weather on the day was sunny and warm so we were able to walk across to the harbour for some great photographs and then back to the chapel for fizz, cake and nibbles. It’s just the perfect chapel for any size of gathering from elopements to larger groups. We were also able to include our 2 dogs which made our day even more special. We also

From the minute we got in touch with the Harbour Chapel about enquiring to see the venue for our wedding Fiona was incredible. She booked us in within days of asking. She showed us around the absolutely stunning Chapel and told us all about the possibilities and we booked a date there and then!! She was incredible throughout the whole planning process too. Went above and beyond to make the day so special and that everything went smoothly. She really is amazing. On our wedding day she was here, there and everywhere making sure we were good, calm and ready for whatever was next. The day was perfect from start to finish thanks to Fiona and her team! Cant recommend them and the venue enough. Beauti

We had our wedding day in the Harbour Chapel on the 4th of October. We didnt want a typical "hotel" wedding, we wanted somewhere that had character, quirkyness and somewhere that stood out, the Harbour Chapel delivered on all of these. From the moment we stepped into the venue in January 2024, we knew we were going to have our wedding there. Fiona made the whole process very easy, her communication was great and she was only always an email or message away. She always went above and beyond, even giving Teddy a bottle of wine for his birthday. It is the little things that count! She also dropped off our wedding decorations to our hotel on the morning after the wedding, one job less for us to do. She is always thinking ahead. Fiona was on hand all day during our wedding day, she ensured we had a drink in hand at all times and anything we asked, wasnt too much trouble! The chapel is quaint, romantic and the ambiance is perfect for a wedding! If you are looking

The Harbour chapel was a venue that we knew as soon as we walked through the door it was a yes! Understated and charming on the outside making the wow factor even better when you step inside! Fiona, the owner, has been a dream to work with for the last year or so to help us plan from start to finish, being flexible when we needed to make any changes as our venue we planned to have meals at fell though, Fiona sorted us out straight away and we ended up staying at the chapel for this and I’m so so glad we did! But most importantly Fiona was a friend through the entire process. She didn’t just do her job, she went above and beyond to practically become our person wedding planner, giving us recommendations for supplier from cakes to kilts to flowers (even though we didn’t feel we needed flowers as Fiona even had lanterns we could use!). Our ceremony was small but the chapel held us all perfectly and didn’t feel “too big” and instead felt romantic and emotive, the perfect backdrop for our photographs! Paige who was working behind the bar was amazing and so attentive to everything we needed. The Battery just at the bottom of the hill was lot by golden sun in the vending which made for some spectacular photos too. We couldn’t recommend the Harbour Chapel enough! Once you step inside you just know.
