We recently had our UK wedding reception party at Shortmead House and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better venue. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful and was the perfect setting for us to celebrate with all of our family and friends after getting married abroad. Everything looked amazing on the day and there was such a lovely atmosphere. A huge thank you to the team at Shortmead for being so helpful and welcoming throughout. Everything ran so smoothly, which meant we could just relax, enjoy ourselves and make the most of the evening. We had the best night and made so many special memories. Thank you so much for helping make our UK wedding celebration so s

As a bride, you hope to find suppliers who make the planning process easier, but I never expected to find people who would make it so enjoyable too. From the very beginning, I felt completely comfortable with them. They were so kind, approachable, and genuinely invested in making our day everything we dreamed it would be. They always listened, reassured me whenever I had a question, and nothing ever felt like too much trouble. It honestly felt like I had friends by my side rather than people we had hired, and that made such a difference throughout the whole journey. Thank you for not only doing an amazing job, but for being such lovely people. The care, passion, and attention you gave us meant more than you’ll ever know, and I’ll always look back on our wedding knowing you played such a big part in making it so special. I can’t recommend you highly enough. If you’re looking fo

Where do we even begin? From the very first conversation, it never felt like we were simply booking a supplier it genuinely felt like we’d made friends. You made us feel completely at ease, took the time to get to know us, and cared just as much about our wedding as we did. Nothing was ever too much to ask. You were incredibly accommodating throughout the whole process, always happy to help, answer questions, and go the extra mile. Your support and kindness meant so much to both of us, and it made the whole experience enjoyable and stress-free. On the day itself, everything was absolutely perfect. We could relax knowing we were in safe hands, and that’s thanks to the care, passion, and professionalism you bring to what you do. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being such a special part of our wedding journey. You helped create memories we’ll cherish forever and we’re so grateful. I

If you are considering Shortmead House for your wedding… do it. From the moment we first visited, we completely fell in love with the grounds and the house itself. In spring especially, the estate is absolutely stunning when everything is blooming. Every direction you look feels like a scene from a period drama, and we genuinely felt like we had stepped into our own Bridgerton world. Most importantly, Laura and George are absolutely wonderful. They know this business inside out and, honestly, listen to their recommendations because they truly know what works. They struck the perfect balance between being professional, relaxed, enthusiastic and reassuring throughout the entire process. One thing we would say to future couples…. have fun with the planning. That is genuinely the best way to approach it, and Shortmead makes that so easy. The whole planning process felt slick, organised and actually enjoyable rather than stressful. We only had TWO MONTHS to plan our wedding, which sounds completely insane now looking back, but George and Laura went above and beyond for us. At no point did we feel unsupported or overwhelmed. They made everything feel achievable and calm even with the tight turnaround. On the actual day, there is honestly nothing to worry about. The staff and front of house team take care of absolutely everything. The organisation was like clockwork from start to finish, which meant we could actually enjoy our wedding rather than manage it. We fully committed to a Bridgerton-inspired theme, and it was incredible. The marquee already looks so elegant and beautifully dressed by default that it perfectly suited the aesthetic without needing excessive decoration. The entire venue has that Downton Abbey feel without the terrifying price tag that usually comes with these kinds of venues. The sound system was fantastic, the bar area and pool looked amazing, and the grounds gave us endless opportunities for BEAUTIFUL photos throughout the day and evening. The aisle walk itself was magical, and another huge positive was how flexible the team were on the day itself. The weather threatened to turn at points, and George and Laura handled every pivot calmly and seamlessly without any stress reaching us or our guests. The bar was also incredibly well stocked and VERY reasonably priced, which so many guests commented on. Another huge bonus was the onsite accommodation, which made such a difference for immediate family, bridal party members and close friends. It allowed everyone to properly relax and enjoy the celebrations together. We genuinely loved every single minute of making our Bridgerton dream happen at Short

We had an amazing experience with George and the whole team. From start to finish they were incredibly helpful, professional, and genuinely caring. What really stood out was their kindness after our event — I accidentally left my phone at the venue, and not only did they find it quickly, they posted it back to me free of charge without hesitation. That level of honesty and customer care is rare to find. The venue itself was beautiful, the team were attentive throughout, and they made eve

We’ve recently had our wedding at Shortmead House and Laura and George were outstanding from start to finish. They honestly thought of everything! There were so many little moments throughout the day where they were just there exactly when we needed them. Whether it was quietly checking in, keeping everything running on time, or handling things behind the scenes so we didn’t have to worry, they made the whole day feel completely stress-free. I remember at one point thinking, “everything is just running perfectly,” and that’s completely down to them. So many of our guests commented on how beautiful

We got married at Shortmead on 28 March 2026 & it was the best day! We wanted an outdoor, dog friendly venue that could accommodate 30 day guests & 100 for the evening. I will apologise now if i keep repeating how perfect this venue is! We had looked at all venues within Beds, Herts & Bucks but none matched our vibe, felt truly dog friendly or offered 2 spaces to remain outside if the weather wasn’t on our side. We were shocked at the prices venues wanted but Shortmead is fantastic value for money, we were wanting a no frills wedding & Shortmead is beautiful as it is with the option to make it even more stunning. Laura & George are really lovely people, personable, friendly, flexible, communicative & we are sorry our day is over because it means we no longer have an excuse to meet with them!!! They absolutely understood our needs, helped us negotiate what was required to find the perfect timeline for the day & were just a joy to deal with. They were so helpful with our DJ & supporting him with his set up. Both were a very calming presence on the day & due to their tenacity, we were able to fully be in the moment for the entire day/night. The cottage at Shortmead is beautiful, the perfect accommodation for any bride on her wedding eve & wedding night. We used the caterer associated with Shortmead, PBC catering services & all of our guests commented on how amazing the food was. Laura & George, we cannot thank yo

We this venue is just magical it’s an amazing hidden hem in Biggleswade, we looked at the venue back in jan 2025 and fell in love straight away so much so we went to one other venue walked in and walked back out as I just didn’t have the wow factor like shortmead house, we when we booked it was with a different couple running the venue but it was taken over mid way through by the lovely George and Laura well where do we start with them they are a lovely couple that just want to help you get the best out of what you have and want they also have skills in lots of different things witch was great to see and hear, they both made us feel very welcome from there point of takeover. On the night before the wedding they allowed us to set up a few things before hand and store them witch just showed there compassion and how great they are on the day they went above and beyond for us any thing that needed tweaking was sorted straight away even though it wasn’t there side of things that needed sorting, they also checked up on both myself and my wife through out the night just to make sure we was okay and happy this wed a lovely touch and showed they really wanted the best for us. The day the venue and the staff were very happy/friendly and professional I would highly recommend the venue and George and Laura we already said we want to do something else there weather that’s a party etc. as it was so lovely if I could give them more than ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I would. Please accept this review as a masive thank you from Reece and Chloe’s wedding 11/04/2026 you will be remembered as a massive blessing and part of our ever lasting memory. Don’t miss out on this amazing hidden gem 💎 and th

OMG do not hesitate book today ! Right from the word go at our initial meeting with Lee and Esme we knew we would be in safe hands and Shortmead would be the venue for our special day. The team are so professional and accommodated our every request, we had a large Italian wedding and nothing was a problem. The grounds are spectacular and our guests felt like they had been transported abroad on one of the hottest days of the year. We are so glad we booked our reception here and everything went smoothly. We got married at Shortmead House in June 2022. The site is beautiful, a stately house, with beautiful grounds. The owners, Ian and Marilyn are lovely! It took 3 attempts for us to get married. On the first occasion our big day was booked for a destination wedding in Crete. This was cancelled due to the inital covid-19 lockdown. For the second attempt, we had discovered Shortmead House! We liaised with Ian to arrange our perfect day! (He was very helpful). All our needs were understood and catered for i.e. it was to be an alcohol-free wedding, so Ian arranged for a range of alcohol-free cocktails to be served at the bar. Sadly, the day before the big day we had to cancel as we both contracted covid. We called Ian to explain the situation. It was probably one of the most stress relieving conversation we've ever had. Ian, was very understanding and empathetic. Our mind was put to rest when we were given the option to move the date to a suitable day a few months later with Ian and Marilyn offering us the one day they had planned to have off during the peak business period. The wedding day on the third attempt was a complete success. The guests loved the location, there was something to keep everyone entertained with games set out around the grounds which children absolutely loved! With the sun out at the start of summer, it felt as if we were abroad on private tropical island. The outdoor setting for the wedding ceremony was perfect for the photos. This estate offers a fusion of scenic views from the english country side to a luxury resort in the bahamas. The place truely mad

We had a wedding party at Shortmead House in May 2022. The day was wonderful, and the grounds of Shortmead were really perfect for our plans of a games event. However, may I warn all couples that the meetings with Ian before to plan the event are largely pointless, as on the day, he will largely do whatever he wants on the day anyway. 1) front of house is a mystery. We were unsure what front of house meant and what their role was. We were originally told it was a lady called Katie, and we could meet her the Friday before. However, on the day, we were then told it was going to be Marilyn. Then on the day it was Ian. Not really sure what a ‘front of house’ did anyway. The lead bar tender on the day was however brilliant and dealt with a medical issue expertly. 2) on the morning of the wedding, we had to hose down all of the garden furniture (belonging to Shortmead) that was covered in mud and cobwebs. 3) we had asked numerous times with the plan for all wine and glasses to be out on the tables. However, the waiting staff set them out how Ian normally does it anyway. So in my dress, waiting for guests, I was moving glasses and wine coolers and explaining to the waiting staff how I wanted it. 4) the welcome drinks were still not out for the guests when they started to arrive. I had to go and get them out myself, when finally Ian got the picture. Extra decorations (drink stirrers) were described as ‘faff’ by Ian. 5) the waiting staff were on their phones at the bar or playing the chess game whilst not working, which although understandable wasn’t particularly professional. Ian was also sitting at the bar all night, talking to our guests and eating. I would advise all people having a wedding / party here to not add your own spin on things, because it will upset you and frustrate you on your day trying to make it what you want. The fact the house and gardens are wonderful really helpe

We got married at Shortmead in July 2018, the day was perfect with the sun shining and not a cloud in the sky. The grounds are set in beautiful and meticulously maintained gardens which provided a stunning setting for our summer wedding. The host Ian was faultless in his ability to organise and cater for our every need with brilliant suggestions and ideas throughout. His staff were incredible and went above and beyond to ensure the day went smoothly without any hick ups. Due to the unexpected heat wave and with only a day to go before our wedding, Ian even cleaned and heated up the swimming pool for our guests to enjoy which made the day even more special for us. Ian’s attention to detail and love of Shortmead is clear to see from the exceptional restoration work and care he has put in to make it a one of a kind wedding venue. All of our guests commented on how amazing the venue was and how much fun they had, there were outside games such as table tennis, giant Jenga and a giant chess board which added to everyone’s enjoyment. We would highly recommend hiring the beautiful on site cottage. We used it for the bride and bridesmaids to get ready on the day and also spend our wedding night there but it became a great place for us and our family to make use of the amenities throughout the wedding day. Thank you Ian and your team for making our wedding day better than we could of ever imagined, Sam & Debbie
