Two years ago we began our search for a venue. I had always known that I wanted a rustic wedding and wanted to be married outside. Little did I know that a family connection would lead us to our perfect venue. Some 17 years ago my father helped Nic and Carol get their beautiful barns ready to become a wedding venue and as soon as we visited and walked around with Carol I knew that this was the place that I wanted my wedding to be. The outdoor ceremony glade is so picturesque and tranquil it matched my vision for the wedding perfectly, the way the light danced through the trees and foliage on the hottest day of the year created the ethereal atmosphere I was hoping for. See my new husband's face as I walked down the aisle of the arm of my father is a moment I will never forget. With Carol 'floofing' my train and Nic directing music and movement it was seamless. The barn itself is so flexible in terms of what it can offer for your reception. Nic and Carol were on hand with ideas of what would and wouldn't work and on the day itself everything was seamless. Guests were so happy, the children were entertained and it really is a venue where you can bring your dreams to life (within reason) The extensive list of recommended suppliers really helped us with organisation and even when we brought in some of our own they were welcomed with open arms. Our DJ went and spent a happy evening with Nic discussing speakers and inputs and outputs and my chauffer made a special trip to meet Nic and Carol so that he knew exactly what would happen on the day. We had a wonderful wedding at Alpheton Hall Barns. Being a wedding singer - I have performed at many venues all over Essex and Suffolk and I was keen to go somewhere that felt a bit different, somewhere that didn't have that corporate feel. We knew as soon as we met Carol and Nic and walked into the barns that AHB was the place for us. Carol and Nic were so helpful from start to finish. They responded to all questions and went the extra mile to make our day feel both personal and special: from drone footage over the confetti garden (which was mowed into the shape of a heart), to filming our ceremony and providing pictures of our day which came up on the screen behind the band during the night. What an amazing venue. Carol and Nik were fantastic. We married in the wood on a very hot day. Nik damped down the wood the day before which resulted in a perfect temperature for our ceremony. Nik even set up a misting line in the reception area which our guests absolutely loved. We were a bit clueless on a few things but ideas were put forward which we really appreciated as it's always pays to listen to the experts and they certainly are. From the point of first contact to the end of our wedding, my husband and I were amazed at how wonderful Carol and Nic were every step of the way. When I made contact one evening to visit the Barns, I had a reply within a couple of hours (I had contacted other venues, but no one ever got back to me). We visited a couple of days later and instantly fell in love with the venue and it's beautiful setting. Carol talked us through various aspects, and within a few days we booked with them. Every step since then has been perfect. All the information we needed, friendly emails, and much needed help/advice given. They seemed to be as excited about our day as we were! Their open day was great, and helped give us extra inspiration in decorating and other suppliers we hadn't thought about previously (their suppliers list on their website is great and useful). Setting up the day before our wedding was a breeze, and went smoothly. We also ran through a few details for the day itself. Carol and Nic were stars on our day in helping the day/evening run really well so that we didn't need to worry about anything. They were always on hand at a moments notice, but never in our faces. During our wedding venue search, we browsed many barns across Essex. And while there were lots of lovely options, we just found that they all felt too similar. On top of that, most came with a long list of rules and additional charges that would’ve forced our big ideas into their mould and pushed us over budget. Thankfully, we found a venue that was the complete opposite. We wanted somewhere that felt authentic and warm, full of character, with a stunning woodland ceremony area and a back-up option we’d be equally excited about if it rained. The communication leading up to our wedding was amazing, nothing was too much to ask and any questions we had were replied to immediately. What a day!! We can't thank Carol & Nic enough for our wedding and experience at Alpheton Hall Barns! From the first visit they were warm and enthusiastic, offering lots of ideas and advice to make our day feel special and unique to us. On the lead up they were also great at promptly answering any questions we had. They really know their stuff when it comes to the ins and outs of a wedding, and we felt in such safe hands. We cannot recommend AHB highly enough. The coordinators / owners Nic and Carol were so amazing to work with on our special day. What stood out to us about AHB was the venue's flexibility, which gave us the option to really make the day our own. As we were doing a vegetarian wedding, having the option to choose our own caterer was really important to us. In the lead up, Carol was super responsive and patient, replying promptly to my one million emails. Additionally, being able to decorate everything ourselves the day before meant we could make sure everything was perfect, rather than needing to pay someone else to sort everything on the morning of. Nic and Carol are also really generous, there are countless wonderful props and decorations available for use at the barns for free, and we made use of lots of them. They also have some unique features which you can use to make the day really special, such as the chalkboard photobooth, and the dancefloor confetti balloon. On top of all of this, the venue is stunningly beautiful. We loved the magic of being in such a historic barn, and being able to get married in the beautiful woodland surrounded by birdsong was so amazing. We can’t recommend Alpheton Hall Barns highly enough. Our original venue cancelled our wedding, which left us in a panic, incredibly stressed and unsure what to do next. We viewed several venues, but from the moment we walked around Alpheton Hall Barns and met Carol and Nic, we knew we would be looked after. Their warm, reassuring approach instantly put us at ease. They told us we could still use our existing suppliers, which meant we did not lose the bookings we had already made or the money we had spent. After such a difficult start, we felt very safe in their hands. Carol and Nic are so welcoming and enthusiastic about helping you celebrate your wedding. They have a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and their input was invaluable. It is clear they genuinely want your guests to have the best time, with thoughtful added features included as standard. For example, there is a confetti balloon for a fun, celebratory moment. They also offer the option of an epic entrance to your wedding breakfast, which we decided to adapt as our entrance to the first dance instead. Nic was fantastic at working out the logistics for this, and it worked perfectly. What stood out most was their flexibility and determination to make the day exactly how you want it. We had planned an outdoor ceremony, but the morning brought heavy rain. We had resigned ourselves to moving indoors, which would have been beautiful as the barn itself is stunning. However, Carol and Nic reassured us that the ceremony could still go ahead outside, and it did. Their confidence and knowledge of the local weather meant we had the ceremony we had dreamed of, something we do not think many other venues would have gone to such effort to make happen. The venue itself is breathtaking. The barn is beautiful on its own and does not need much to make it personal. Fairy lights are included as standard and look magical. There are also plenty of varied photo opportunities, with lots of different backdrops to give you a lovely selection of photographs, which is so important. The facilities give you the flexibility to make your day as simple or as detailed as you wish. We did not necessarily do everything in a traditional order. For example, we wanted to cut our wedding cake much later in the evening, which was not an issue at all. If you want to do things your own way, that is really not a problem here. The 48 hour hire period was a huge benefit, allowing us to set up the day before and making the wedding day itself far less stressful. We could relax and enjoy the morning knowing everything was ready, with our wedding party just adding a few finishing touches. If you are looking for a stunning venue with a team who truly care about making your wedding unique to you, we would wholeheartedly recommend Alpheton Hall Barns.
