Clock Barn

I recently was a guest at a wedding at the Clock Barn Whitchurch. Quite a few days before the event there had been an extreme weather warning it was forecast the hottest day of the year boy did they get that right, we endured 30 degree heat! The clock barn had a duty of care that day to every single guest that attended yet they put absolutely nothing in place for the guests concerning the extreme temperatures! There were guests in their 80’s and a heavily pregnant guest, not to mention the bride who had the most beautiful princess wedding dress on that must have weighed a tonne and lined to the hilt! The ceremony was held in a room the size of a shoebox, everyone was practically sitting on top of each other and there was no air con or fans or anything to relieve you of the sauna style experience! Luckily the ceremony was short and we were able to escape to the gardens! Please be aware this function/wedding event venue has absolutely NO air conditioning or industrial style fans, and there was no attempt from the venue to hire them for the day even though the country was full warned of the heatwave we were going to have that day! When we went inside for the wedding meal the temperature must have been close to 40 degrees! The bride passed out and staff were running around with napkins filled with ice trying to cool down guests that were overheating! It was awful, no one could enjoy the meal, no one could enjoy the table wine, everyone wanted to escape, I felt so sorry for the bride & groom that had spent thousands of pounds on their wedding for it to be ruined by a penny pinching venue that had no regard for their guests! In the evening the DJ set up, he played practically the whole set to an empty room, it was just too hot for anyone to stay in for more than a couple of minutes at a time! A couple of weeks before the wedding the venue contacted the bride & groom and asked them for an extra £1400 for “food” I find this absolutely disgusting, this young couple had a booked the wedding 2 years beforehand and had a contract with the Clock Barn, they then demand a huge amount of money weeks before their big day, what a joke, beware of this company, they totally took advantage of the bride & grooms vulnerability and anxieties about the venue cancelling their wedding day if they didn’t forward extra money, demanded outside of the contract! FUTURE BRIDE & GROOM BEWARE THIS IS A COMPANY THAT TAKES YOUR MONEY AND DOES NOT CARE! I can imagine the venue is beautiful but I never got to experience it as it was just too hot to spend anytime inside! Bet the bar took hardly any money as everyone stuck to soft drinks as it was too hot to drink alcohol! We had the most perfect wedding day and knew the second we toured it that this would be the venue for us. We only toured one other venue after clock barn and it didn't come close. Everything, from the immaculate grounds to the friendly staff ,was brilliant. Norleen was our event manager but every single member of staff we spoke to was so professional and helped make our day so special. The chefs were so accommodating for dietary requirements, and when we wanted to pick something not on the menu they couldn't have been more obliging. The food was truly phenomenal. From the moment we booked Clock Barn, everything was completely stress-free. The booking process was simple and straightforward, and at our very first meeting with Abi we were instantly put at ease — she made us feel completely confident that we were in the best hands. From the moment we booked it over two years before our big day, we found every visit enchanting, eagerly anticipating our wedding each time we returned. Clock Barn is a beautiful venue and the staff were lovely on the day. They let us put up our own bunting and our dog could come for the ceremony which was great, however there were a few things that left us disappointed with the venue. The first issue we had was the trouble we had when we had to reschedule our wedding due to Covid - we weren’t given the choice of a suitable date, moving a bank holiday Sunday to a Sunday in April and not refunding us the difference in price (~£3,000). We had reschedule again to August the year after and the venue had taken a much fairer approach, but the stance they originally took in 2020 is hard to forgive. We understand that as a business you need to remain profitable, but the lack of willingness to work with us tarnished our opinion of the management. Secondly, the standards of their catering have dropped since we chose the venue in 2019. One of the reasons we chose Clock Barn was because of their amazing catering through Galloping Gourmet, but the quality of food and drink on the day did not live up to this. We weren’t informed of cocktail station changes (we would not have had the martini station had we known the espresso martinis couldn’t be supplied), and the starters and main courses were not cooked to the standard we were paying for. We could not have asked for more from the Clock Barn. Our entire experience with them was outstanding. Our wedding coordinator, Molly, was so attentive and made sure our day was utterly perfect from start to finish. It was ideal for us that everything was in one place, from us being able to use the stable rooms to get ready all morning to having our wedding and reception all in the main barn! Then the house for us all to sleep in and have breakfast together the next morning. We could not have wanted any more from the Clock Barn and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful venue with amazing staff, delicious food and great wedding packages!
