About Clifford Barton Weddings

Deep in the enchanting Devon countryside, Clifford Barton is a uniquely picturesque wedding venue. Overlooking Fingle Woods and the wider Teign Valley, serenaded by a chorus of birdsong, it offers you and your wedding party the perfect escape and exclusive use of the venue and its on-site accomodation for the whole weekend (from Friday to Monday), or for a single day. You have the freedom to tailor your Wedding to truly reflect your personalities and the Clifford Barton team offers unlimited advice and support throughout the planning process and on your special day to help realise the wedding of your dreams. Facilities and Capacity Situated in 50 acres of serene private lake, woodlands, streams and meadows, Clifford Barton is particularly well suited to couples who love nature and the great outdoors, and is exclusively yours for the entirety of your celebrations. Set in a medieval farmstead, the venue boasts a unique blend of ancient charm and modern luxury for you and your guests. Clifford Barton is not only one of the prettiest venues in Devon, but one of the most sustainable, with all accomodation heated from an on site wood chip boiler, using chip sourced from the adjacent Fingle Woods. There is an off-grid wood-fired hot tub with breathtaking views over the valley below, perfect for a pre-wedding bridal party relaxation. The venue is extremely flexible, offering a host of areas and facilities for different activities and games. Whilst highly professional, Clifford Barton is family-run and is ideal for couples seeking a non-corporate, relaxed wedding weekend. Licensed to host civil ceremonies, couples can make their lifelong commitments overlooking the aptly named Bridesmere Lake. With your guests looking on from under the beautiful chapel-esque timber bridge, there can't be many more romantic settings to start married life together. Then perhaps lead a romantic walk around the lake, enjoy lakeside drinks and nibbles, before returning to the magically light and airy stone-walled Rose Barn for your Reception. There is also the option to make your vows in ancient woodland on a platorm between two ancient oak trees. Included in the package is a wonderfully romantic off-grid love-nest cabin, with fantastic views up the Teign gorge, where having left the fesivities behind you can sit out under the stars in front of an open fire and reflect on the day and your future life together. Services Offered We understand that you'll want the freedom to design the wedding of your dreams. At Clifford Barton, whilst we can recommend caterers who we've worked with in the past, you are free to book the caterers and other suppliers of your choice. The Clifford Barton team offers you as much support and advice as you want to plan your weekend, and are present throughout the hire period to provide hands-on support, coordination and anything else you need to realise your dream wedding. Our wedding packages include: Weekend Love Supreme! You and your guests can fully relax into the luxury of spreading your Wedding celebrations over a full weekend, from midday on Friday to Monday morning. In addition to our off-grid Love Nest, we can host up to 22 guests in our three historic cottages, with a further 10 able to stay on-site in our furnished bell tents. The scale and variety of Clifford Barton and its surroundings offers lots of choice of things to bond over and having the whole weekend with your closest friends and family members affords you the time to make the most of bringing them all together. Perhaps a laid back BBQ and hot-tub on friday evening or a stroll up the enchanting river Teign and its various wild swimming spots to the river-side pub for a chilled Sunday lunch. The Day the Rest of Your Life Begins! A one-day celebration, with the same freedom to use all of Clifford Barton's magical spaces but without the late night party or accomodating guests on-site. Host your Ceremony overlooking the stunning Bridesmere Lake; Chill, chat and play lawn games with your guests on the grassed terraces at the centre of Clifford Barton's Medieval courtyard and host your Wedding Feast, First Dance and early evening Celebrations in the historic stone-built Swallow Barn. Three Hours of Love, Laughter and Champagne! If you're after a more intimate, carefully curated wedding, we offer packages from just the two of you to up to 40 guests for a Ceremony and lake-side Reception of up to 3 hours to celebrate your union and enjoy drinks, nibbles and photos together. Included is one nights' accomodation in our off-grid Love Nest and an evening in our chemical-free off grid hot tub.

Clifford Barton was the perfect canvas for our wedding. We wanted a day that felt deeply infused with nature, in a venue that allowed us to lean into our creative side too - Clifford Barton delivered in every way. Saying our vows on Bridesmere Bridge overlooking the lake was a magical experience that felt completely at one with the surroundings. The seating cut into the bank is informal and intimate, and it's a great area for post-ceremony drinks and canapes. Vicki and Gavin even allowed us to transport the bride to the aisle with our own landrover, which was a special touch to the day. We fell in love with the natural amphitheatre of the barn area immediately, which looks even more magical with the lights around the stretch tent and on the crooks etc in the evening, with the fire pit aglow. There are plenty of options for including food trucks, setting up games and entertainment, and spaces for guests to be quiet and relax too. Beyond the stunning scenery, what truly set this venue apart was the incredible kindness of Vicki and Gavin. As a couple who had each lost a parent, we were looking for a place that felt safe and simply 'right.' Vicki and Gavin were so sensitive to this, showing us genuine empathy that we will never forget, and together with the stunning backdrop deep in the valley, with the clouds resting on the trees, it made us feel like we were closer to our lost loved ones. They were also so accommodating of our constant questions and our visits leading up to the day, and have a really relaxed 'nothing is too much trouble' vibe about them, which was so reassuring. Vicki and Gavin were also endlessly supportive of our artistic vision - Gavin was a huge help and support with our idea for foliage wrapped wooden ladders that we hung from the beams inside the barn, and both were excited and supportive of our unique-to-them vision of hiring trees to put inside the barn to bring the nature inside! It ended up looking absolutely incredible. We loved the flexibility of the Friday-to-Monday stay, which allowed us to soak in every moment in the cottages (especially with family who had travelled from afar) and the wonderful couple’s eco-pod, while our guests enjoyed the glamping. We also had the pleasure of enjoying a private hot tub the day after the wedding, when all guests had gone home and we were able to soak in the views, enjoy a glass of bubbly, and reminisce about the wedding. Both Vicki and Gavin were fantastic on the day itself too, especially helping when our caterers let us down with intended plans, helping to come to a solution that was more in line with our original plans and taking some of the stress away from that situation. We massively appreciated them making sure we had drinks in hand throughout the day, in a cocktail in hand in the evening. The custom cocktail ideas with unique names was a great touch too, that our guests loved! A few cocktails deep, Gavin became our personal taxi to whisk us up to our glamping pod for the night too - to finish the night in style. We loved it so much that we’ve already booked to stay for our first anniversary (which is also a great bonus of choosing Clifford Barton as a venu

Clifford Barton is, and always will be, a very special place for my partner and me. We came across this beautiful venue by pure luck, having already set our hearts on another place. But from the moment we first visited Clifford Barton and met Gavin and Vicky, we knew this was where we had to get married. The whole process — from our very first visit, through the year of planning, to the wedding weekend itself — felt completely effortless, thanks to Gavin and Vicky. They are the most wonderful people who made us feel so welcome from day one. They were always happy to answer any questions we had, offered us so much useful advice and information throughout the planning, and on the big day itself, they made sure everything ran smoothly. The venue is absolutely stunning, the staff are incredibly friendly, and every detail has been so carefully thought out to make the entire weekend as special as possible. Thank you both so, so much. We held our wedding at Clifford Barton and it was hands-down the best decision we made. We spent the entire weekend on-site, staying Friday through Monday in the beautiful cottages with 20 of our closest friends and family. Having everyone together for three days in such a stunning, relaxed setting made the whole experience feel like a special, extended celebration rather than a rushed single day. Our ceremony took place by the lake, which provided a breathtaking and tranquil backdrop that our guests are still talking about. A massive shout-out to Gavin, Vicki, and their family for being absolutely awesome hosts. They strike the perfect balance—super chilled and down-to-earth, yet completely professional and on top of every detail to keep things running seamlessly. Shout out to our suppliers: Dave Haggett Catering: The food was phenomenal and kept all of our guests happy and well-fed throughout. Alex Toze Photography: Exeter's hardest-working wedding photographer! Alex captured the magic of the venue and the joy of the day perfectly without ever feeling intrusive. If you are looking for a stunning Devon venue that

I got married here in June 2026 and this venue was absolutely everything I dreamed of! From the very start, Vicki and Gavin who own Clifford Barton were absolutely amazing, they are so friendly and so professional and made themselves available for any calls, emails and questions we had. They were very flexible with different ideas we had and the venue itself allows for so many different options for the ceremony and reception that you can completely make the day your own! They completely put me at ease and helped to put together the most INCREDIBLE day ever!! Every single guest that came to the wedding commented on how stunning the venue was and how lucky we were to have found it and get married there! Not only is the outside and surrounding area stunning but the attention to detail in the barns was perfect and made for

We honestly couldn't have chosen a better venue for our wedding. From the moment we first visited, we knew it was somewhere special, and the team only reinforced that feeling every step of the way. Everyone was so warm, welcoming and easy-going, making the whole planning process feel relaxed and enjoyable. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and they were always on hand to answer questions, offer advice and make sure everything ran smoothly. One of the biggest highlights was having the venue for the entire weekend. Instead of feeling like the day flew by, we were able to spend so much more quality time with our family and friends, creating memories that we'll treasure forever. It made the whole celebration feel so much more personal and relaxed. The venue itself is absolutely stunning and provided the perfect backdrop for every part of our wedding. Everything was beautifully maintained, and it felt like a place where everyone could truly switch off and enjoy themselves. Even finishing the weekend with a relaxing session in the hot tub was the perfect way to round off what had been an incredible few days. Something else we really appreciated was their commitment to sustainability. It's refreshing to find a venue that doesn't just talk about being environmentally conscious but actively builds it into the way they operate. From the thoughtful choices they make around the venue to their genuine passion for reducing their environmental impact, it's clear that caring for the planet is part of who they are. It made us feel even better about choosing to celebrate our wedding there. The team were attentive without ever being intrusive, genuinely caring that we had the best possible experience. Their professionalism, kindness and calm approach meant we never had to worry about a thing, allowing us to simply enjoy every moment. They checked in with us to make sure we were happy with how things were going. We truly can't fault a single part of our experience. If you're looking for a beautiful venue with a fantastic team who genuinely care about creating an unforgettable wedding while also caring for the envi

We got married at Clifford Barton on 6th June and honestly couldn't have imagined a better place to celebrate with our family and friends. From the first time we visited, it just felt different. So many wedding venues can look lovely, but feel impersonal with copy and paste weddings, but Clifford Barton felt relaxed, personal and completely unique. We wanted to have our own caterers and vendors, and organise our decor and entertainment and this place was perfect for that. The setting is stunning and exactly what we were after, with beautiful views, lakes, woodland and wildlife everywhere you look, but what really stood out was how peaceful and private it felt. We had our own private corner of Devon for the weekend. One of the biggest reasons we chose Clifford Barton was the people. Vicki and Gavin were incredible from start to finish. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble and they genuinely cared about making sure our day was exactly what we wanted. They were always on hand with advice (even pointing out a few pitfalls in our plans!), recommendations and reassurance, and somehow managed to make the whole planning process feel far less stressful than we'd expected. By the wedding weekend, it felt like we had friends looking after us. Flexibility was the watchword for the weekend, and whilst there were spells of rain, there were so many contingency options, nothing could spoil the weekend for us or our guests. Having exclusive use of the venue for the whole weekend made such a difference. Instead of everything being squeezed into a few hours, we had time to properly enjoy being with our guests. Our friends and family stayed on site, everyone enjoyed the surroundings, and the whole celebration felt more like a weekend away together than a traditional wedding. The pricing was transparent, with no hidden costs or extras. We also noted how Vicki and Gavin are constantly evolving the site and the setting. Also encouraging is their ethos on sustainability and the impact on the environment, which aligns with our values. Our guests are still messaging us about our wedding. So many people commented on how beautiful the venue was, but also how warm and welcoming it felt. Looking back, what we remember most wasn't just the scenery it's how the whole place made us

Clifford Barton is the most naturally beautiful place. Was a more than perfect backdrop for our day! Vicki and Gavin went above and beyond to help us out throught the whole wedding planning process. They answered all the questions we had and were always on hand when needed. They were always on hand during the setup on the Friday and Saturday too. We had no idea of any problems on the day as they had sorted them without us knowing. The venue has so many photo opportunities, a beautiful rustic barn and multiple ceremony locations. Also it is such good value for money - so many venues charge for lawn games etc and they have these included (lots too!). It was like a mini holiday too, being able to have the venue from Friday - Monday Having the cottages and off grid pod on site was so lovely. We could have our closest friends

Vicki and Gavin were so attentive and regularly checked in with us offering help during set up. Along with their team they took the pressure off us and managed a smooth and perfect wedding day! We love nature and this venue delivered, so much bird and small mammal wildlife, deer and fantastic views. Having the venue and grounds for the entire weekend for our family and friends was such an added bonus and made the cost worth while. We looked at similar venues and Clifford was the best value as they have a flat rate all year, so no peak season hike up! Which meant we could afford the late May wedding we'd hoped for. Strongly recommen

From our first viewing (and booking) to leaving for our honeymoon on the Monday, Vicki and Gavin did an incredible job. The venue is wonderful, and it was great that so many of our friends and family were able to stay for the whole weekend. This made setting up for the wedding and making the most of our time together much more special. Across the whole weekend, Vicki and Gavin were on hand to help with any queries and helped to make sure things ran smoothly on the day itself. Any worries or stresses were sorted by them immediately, meaning we could focus on celebrating. Even with some stresses surrounding the rain, which didn't really come to fruition, they were on hand with alternative plans and plenty of umbrellas! Responses to emails were always quick and detailed, they were always on the end of the phone, and they allowed us to visit the venue multiple time

Clifford Barton was the perfect venue for our wedding. It was so great to be able to stay from Friday-Monday and it really helped make the wedding go to plan and allow us to spend more time with close friends and family. Vicki and Gavin were amazing from start to finish, we were able to visit a couple of times before the wedding and pick up emails and calls with them to sort the finer details. Over the weekend they could not have been more accommodating, the perfect mix of chilled and attentive, always there to help out or answer any questions and always with a smile! We had a pretty rainy day but this didn't stop us getting married at the lake and it still all went perfectly, with the venue being very flexible to changes. They provided everyone with Clifford Barton umbrellas which meant photos looked smart and they were far studier than ones people brought. All the accommodation is really nicely done and the extra option of bell tents is great for people staying for the weekend. Everything in the planning is laid out clearly and we felt it was good value, with absolutely no hidden costs or extra

Where to start?! Vicki and Gavin where absolutly amazing! From the first visit they made everything so easy. They got excited about all of our ideas and helped with their own ideas and experience. So much of what they offer is included (meaning there arnt 1000 decisions to be made about add ons), and email communications during planning were always promptly answered. Arriving for the weekend, they were there ready for us, help moved thing around, took the things we brought to use for the day/things we needed for the ceramony, stored it and set it up, everything happened around us! The venue itself is so beautiful you barely need to decorate. On the day they were attentive and around when we needed them but never intrusive. Of all the many little things they orcastrated to make sure our wedding went off without a hitch, the cherry on the top was Gavin squirreling away one of our left over pizzas from dinner becasue he "thought we might want the midnight snack" . Absolutley correct and incredibly thoughtful. They went the extra mile and made us feel so at ease and were there as and when we

We are so glad that we found Clifford Barton and Gavin and Vicki! As soon as we arrived to look around the venue we knew it was such a special place. Very secluded and private, completely surrounded by nature and so well-looked after by the owners. I have never seen another venue like it. We wanted to get married outside and Clifford Barton was even better than we could have imagined. Walking up from the cottages to the lake through ancient woodland was absolutely magical and getting married at Bridesmere Bridge (overlooking the lake) was perfect. From the very start Gavin and Vicki were so friendly, accommodating and helpful. They sent us a list of local suppliers etc to get started and were always happy to answer any questions we had. We were also able to come and visit to go through everything which was much appreciated. They have continued to learn from each wedding which is clear in the small details, which make such a difference! They were so brilliant on the day - anticipating all of our needs and working with their wonderful family team to make sure everything went smoothly and that we were as relaxed as possible. For example, Gavin came and gave us sparkling elderflower when we were coming back from having pictures taken after the ceremony (pictured) - it was so warm and we hadn't had time to have any drinks but he thought to get us one which was so kind! It all felt very personal and it was lovely to have them be part of our day - they felt like part of the wedding family! Our friends and family also made many comments as to how wonderful they were. They were such a joy to work with! It was brilliant to be able to have the venue for the whole weekend (which includes the cottages, cabin and wood-fired hot tub!), and we believe the value for money is amazing. The cottages are beautiful, comfortable and well equipped. We loved having our own separate space of the cabin to escape away to. The barn (for wedding breakfast and music) is beautiful and needs little decoration. On the Sunday, Gavin and Vicki recommended we walk through the forest to Fingle Bridge Inn with family and friends for lunch. The walk was so beautiful and the pub is stunning! We can't recommend Clifford Barton enough - we wish we could do it all again! Words can't really express how special this place is.

We took a bit of a risk and booked Clifford Barton without looking at the venue first, and honestly, as it turns out that was one of the best decision we made for our wedding weekend. The venue itself is stunning with literally every guest telling us how beautiful the setting was as they arrived. There are many aspects of the venue that make it unique and versatile - from the lake to the barns. We picked the lake for our actual ceremony spot but there are other options too. Drinks and canapés by the lake went down super with the guests, such a nice countryside setting that really matched the vibe we were after. Also, most of the family stayed onsite in the cottages which was a nice touch, particularly on the wedding morning and after a lot of dancing in the evening. While the venue itself is super, Vicki and Gavin were amazing and really made the weekend come together. Nothing is too much trouble to them, they just want to see you have the most amazing day. They both made sure everything ran smoothly and we didn’t have any hiccups, even with a few last minute additional requests we had. They made it as stress free as possible and allowed us to focus on h

If we could all the stars to Clifford Barton we would! As soon as we first saw the venue, we knew it was the one for us, due to its beautiful rural location and accommodation for friends and family. Vicki and Gavin went above and beyond. During the planning stages they responded to our queries really quickly and provided invaluable advise and suggestions. On the day, they were incredibly accommodating and flexible, which meant we didn't have to think on the day which was amazing. We even managed to have our ceremony by the idyllic lake, despite the heavy downpours on the day! Their relaxed nature really put us at ease and made the whole day run smoothly.
