We were so pleased with having our wedding reception at the Ashmolean Museum. This was the final event of our two day wedding and we couldn't have asked for a better end to the celebrations. The venue itself is obviously so unique and it does really feel like a privilege. The team are amazing (especially Asia and Kirtsty who we had direct contact with), everything went really smoothly. We also loved that they had a Indian caterer that really was perfect for our mixed culture wedding. Being a historic and significant building they do have quite strict rules on certain things which they do try and make you aware of at the time of booking- only clear/ light coloured drinks from trays for the drinks reception, drinks have to be served into glasses in the sculpture gallery and only single measures of drinks/spirits. We worked around these and this wasn't an issue for us and a small negotiation for what you get in return- an opportunity to have a memorable occation in a memorable place. Since the start of the wedding planning process, the events team at the Ashmolean on the day have been excellent. They have a list of recommended vendors, but they were willing to work with us to choose different vendors if we wanted it. The team were absolutely excellent communicating vendors. Then team have obviously done loads of weddings, and we could tell by how smooth and well organised the planning, run-up, wedding itself, and final bits went. Their staff on the day were absolutely excellent, included in the very reasonable price for such a gorgeous venue. We had a team of staff working with us on the day, to help direct guests, make sure the bride and groom were in the correct places at the correct times. And, they had even more staff to help the cake vendor, photographers, florist, ceremony music and evening PA all set up. We chose the Ashmolean almost as soon as we had looked around it - it is such a stunning setting and there aren't many reception venues in Oxford that can hold 150 people! The wedding co-ordinator, Asia, was wonderful - she was so responsive and helpful. She accommodated us wherever possible and helped organise everything from putting out specific named chairs for elderly relatives to setting up a changing space in the lunch room for us to keeping our flowers overnight so we could give them back to the church the next day!
